VietCham networking night and panel discussion – “Lifting Foreign Ownership Limit and Investment Opportunities in Vietnam” on Thursday, 20 Aug 2015 at Google office has been a tremendous success with overwhelming interest from the entrepreneurs, investors and young aspiring professional community.

There were about 70 participants at the event, coming from various asset management, private equity, VC, investment banks, law firms, etc. such as CVC Capital, KV Asia, Mizuho Partners, SingAlliance, IndoChina Capital, VinaCapital, Silversea Asset Management, Taipan Partners, One Tree Partners, Vietcombank, Prudential Assurance Singapore,Symphony Financial Partners, Gartner, White & Case, Morgan Lewis Stamford, Bloomberg, etc.

  1. Mr. John Foo, CEO & CIO – Kingsmead Asset Management

With over 23 years of experience in Asian markets, Mr. John Foo has been the Portfolio Manager for the Kingsmead Asian Alpha Opportunities Fund since March 2012. He is also the Portfolio Manager of the Kingsmead Vietnam and Indochina Growth Fund from August 2014. His products are known to produce good returns that have outperformed the Asian benchmark indices

During the event, he has shared with us about different reasons why he believes that Vietnam has a tremendous potential to grow in the region from an investor point of view

  1. Mr. Vu Dzung, Partner – YKVN

Mr. Vu Dzung is a Partner of YKVN and is based in the Ho Chi Minh City office. His practice focuses on banking & finance transactions, corporate matters and litigation. Mr. Dzung’s representative clients include Citibank N.A., Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam, Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines Corporation, and Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters & Producers (VASEP)

During the event, he has enlightened the audience with more visibility and details about the decree and advise them on what to pay attention to when dealing with the decree

  1. Dr. Phan Minh Ngoc, Vice President – Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation

Dr. Phan Minh Ngoc is currently a Vice President at Corporate Research Department, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Singapore Branch to the present. His current job is to analyse economic activities and credit risks at firm-, industry- and macro-levels for ASEAN, Indian Subcontinent, and Australasia. Prior to that job, he obtained Degree of Doctor in Economics in 2004 and then taught and conducted research in International Economics for a couple of years in Kyushu University

During the event, he has shared with the audience about both macro and micro-economical potential impacts of this decree on Vietnamese economy system

The session ended with an interactive panel discussion where our speakers expressed their opinions on our audience’s interesting questions around investment strategy for individual investors and key areas to change to improve the overall ecosystem to facilitate further investment in Vietnam
